What a successful Fall Season at City Center! The past week has been filled with excitement for all the Development interns. Following the opening night performance on Tuesday, we worked at the Plaza Hotel for the Gala party. While checking in the guests and guiding them to their tables, we admired the beautiful décor in the Palm Court and the wonderful dresses of the patrons. I enjoyed the speech made by Matthew Rubel, recipient of the Melville Straus Leadership Achievement Award. His leadership in the American Ballet Theatre and Payless Shoe campaign has made dance shoes more affordable. I’m proud to be part of an organization that supports the dreams of all young dancers. The guests had a fantastic evening with dinner, dessert and lots of dancing! As a parting gift to our guests, we gave out delicious cupcakes from Sprinkles Cupcakes. At the end of the fun night, it felt great to sit down, relax and take off our high heels!
For the rest of the week we supported the staff in the Shuman Lounge by setting up refreshments for the ABT Members to enjoy during intermission. We also were able to watch one of the performances. After hearing the music playing in the studios and observing a few of the rehearsals, it was amazing to see the pieces performed on stage. Some of our favorites included Demis Volpi’s new work, Private Light, and Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room and the Known by Heart pas de deux.
We finished off the week with the Chairmen’s Council Curtain Call dinner and the ABTPartners Brunch. I had been working on these events since September, and it was incredible to see the finished products! There was lots of work to be done with table arrangements and multiple last-minute seating changes, but all together it was a rewarding experience. I was fortunate to meet some of the people whose generous love and support of ABT make all the magic of the performances possible.
